RUFF -- Restoring Upland Forests' Future

RGS kicks off “RUFF” Campaign to raise $5 million to fully endow its biologists -
$1.5 million pledged by the end of the first week.

In early September 2008, letters went out inviting donors who have supported RGS in the past to contribute to the Restoring Upland Forests' Future (RUFF) campaign. If you have given before, watch your mail and please be generous in your giving decision. If you haven't given before, please read on and consider giving generously.

The Campaign is off to a great start. Members of two families have stepped forward to make a combined pledge of $1 million to endow the WI biologist position. We also have two excellent leadership pledges from RGS Board members. Thus we are up to $1.5 million of our $5 million goal.

RGS hopes you will want to contribute to this effort to expand upon the excellent start provided by the Partners In Conservation (PIC) campaign from the late 1990's. To facilitate that, we are providing an introductory letter and the Case for Support here for you to read to help you decide how much you'd like to contribute. When you've decided the amount, you may donate online by clicking here; or use this printable donation/pledge form to complete and mail with your check or credit card information. Give today and thank you!

Please help us achieve our goal, suggest to a friend that they donate to RUFF, email the link to this page to them.

Provided here only as a brief introduction are two sections copied from the Case.

Executive Summary

RGS has launched the RUFF Capital Campaign to raise $5 million over the next two years. These funds, when added to RGS’ existing endowment funds of $6 million, will fully endow the Society’s team of six biologists ($4 million) and fund the purchase of a headquarters building for the Society ($1 million). This campaign will enable the RGS to expand projects and activities that further the RGS mission of enhancing habitat for wildlife that rely on early successional forests for survival.

Campaign Goal

At present RGS has about $3.5 million in its endowment. It also has the timber rights on 2,300 acres of land donated by the R. K. Mellon Foundation worth between $2.6 and $3 million. Together these assets total about $6 million. Therefore, to meet its endowment and property objectives, RGS must raise $5 million.
